Introduction

1999 Nissan 200sx Z-edition. Number 76 of 200.

SR20DET engine

History
My car left the factory in 1999. It's an European 200sx (USA 240sx model) with a black-top SR20DET engine.

I had been wanting to have a special car for a while. A car that drives and looks great.

After doing some research I found that the s14a was the perfect match and would fulfill all my needs. Sure, there's the BMW Z4, the Mazda Miata MX5 or the Mazda FD RX-7 but the s14a was the best choice for me.

I found that particularly the German Z-edition had the best looks along with the best drive as it was factory lowered by 30 mm with Eibach springs.

An advantage of this edition is that it would keep its value because it is the most popular special edition, manufactured in Germany and, there were only 200 made of it. My SX didn't depreciate a bit after owning her for over 4 years.

I was very fortunate to find one in an incredible good shape. The previous owner had not tampered with the car (unmodded), actually had babied it. It had 47,000 km (29,000 miles) on it and looked brand new. Everything looked brand new; the bodywork, engine, even the under side (the metal underneath the car) looked brand new (still does, :D ). The only 'spot' the car had was some wear on the leather on the driver's seat.

Buying the car was the best investment I ever did. The car really is 100% fun to drive. Maybe because of the 2 liter turbo engine (200hp) or because it was lowered by 30mm (z-edition) but you got to believe me that it really drives superb. In my opinion, the car 'feels' better than for instance the 2007 Infinity G35 Sport and an old BMW 3-series. The steering is accurate, you can feel the grip through the steering wheel, braking is great and, for me... the engine's power is more than adequate. Driving the car on a wet road makes you want to drive careful, or will let you have fun if you know what I mean (lol).

The design - I love it. The curves that start at the headlights and go all over to the rear side of the car. The mean-looking headlights. The height/width ratio. The big engine. The side skirts. Ah, well, just about everything. After 4 years owning the car, I still get a smile when I look at the car. The other thing I'd like to share with you is there usually always is a catch? Right? Something that is out of proportion, out of reach or some small vibration, or window sound or expensive maintenance or parts that wear out quickly. Well, there is nothing of that with this 200sx. There's nothing that annoys me and there's nothing that broke or wore out ever since. I drove about 30.000 km with it.

If you ever come to a point of deciding to buy the same car, don't hesitate to much. Buy the car and start enjoying the ride!

Here are some details about the Z-edition model:
Again, only 200 were made of it. 100 in red and 100 in black. Besides the regular edition, there were 2 other editions manufactured in Germany (Sportsline and racing) but the Z-edtion is the most sought after of all of them. That makes the car pretty special and even more special the older it gets.

Have a ride along with me and browse through the pictures on pages 2,3 and 4.

Here's a close-up of the Z-edition emblem that is found on the right rear side of the car:

2005-09-02: Bought the car
2005-11-02: Changed the marker lights
2005-12-20: Signed me up on CarDomain
2006-02-18: Added some info about the exhaust
2006-06-26: Middle damper of exhaust was worn. I replaced the middle damper with the factory one because I decided to keep the car in stock condition. If I would have placed an after market catback then I would have needed to cut parts of the so special, very sought after, rear lip.
2006-12-01: Placed the car in a 'carcoon'. I moved for 2 years to the United States and left my car in the Netherlands. Should be like a 'hibernation sleep' for 2 years with no added mileage, no rust and no wear!
